Maine carpenter Nathanial Cousins built this Civil War era addition to an early post and beam structure in the rear. Restoring the exterior meant peeling back layers added over the years - chain link, overgrown hemlocks and an ill conceived porch - to reveal the original farm house resting on a handsome granite foundation.Garage and porch additions create entry and rear outdoor "rooms." We opened rooms to create modern spaces while celebrating the historic character of the structure and surfaces.
